Bowman Clement (Canada)
Biography

Clement Bowman was born on January 7, 1930 in Toronto, Canada.

In 1952 he graduated as a chemical engineer from Toronto University.

In 1958 he attained a MASc and in three years — a PhD.

From 1952 to 1957 Bowman was working in Dupont of Canada. In 1960 he continued his research activity and working for Imperial Oil Enterprises Ltd. In 1964 Bowman was appointed as a Research Manager for Syncrude Canada Ltd. Further he returned to the company Imperial Oil Enterprises Ltd. and from 1969 to 1975 was the Head of Oil Department of this company. From 1975 to 1984 he took the position of the Head and Managing Director of Alberba Oil Sand Technology and Research Authority. Then he was a Vice-President for Research for Esso-Petroleum Canada. In 1987 upon the request of the Government of Canadian province Alberta he started dealing with the method of deep oil deposits investigations. From 1987 to 1991 Bowman became a President of the Alberta Research Council. In 1995 he commenced preparation of strategic directions of scientific studies on development of energy production and environment protection of Alberta Province.

Since 2006 Clement Bowman headed ProGrid Ventures Inc. Professor Bowman is carrying out researches of oil sands, and these works allowed him developing an efficient technology of hydrocarbon fuel production.

In 2008 Clement Bowman became the Laureate of the Global Energy Prize for theoretical justification, creation and implementation of the efficient technologies of synthetic fuel production from bituminous schist and oil sands.

  • Researched molecular and interfacial properties of tar sands and developed a technology for their processing.
  • Established industrial production for processing of tar sands of Athabasca deposit.
  • Carried out a range of applied works for extraction of oil from deep-seated sands.
  • Directed creation of test units for updating of technology for obtaining oil from tar sands.
  • Directs the Canadian Academy of Engineering work group in the main directions of development of Canadian power engineering.
