RECOGNISING OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS IN ENERGY

The Global Energy Prize annually honors outstanding achievements in energy research and technology from around the world that are helping address the world’s various and pressing energy challenges.

World Future Summit 2016 in Abu Dhabi. Day 2.

The World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi, UAE continues! The Global Energy Non-Profit Partnership`s delegation headed by president Igor Lobovskiy is now in UAE and we`re looking forward to The Global Energy Prize laureate, LED-pioneer Shuji Nakamura`s speech at the Summit tomorrow.

The current energy trends and economy outlook are on today`s agenda. Here are the opinions of WFES 2016 keynote speakers.

H.E. Nasser Saidi, Clean Energy Business Council: "The demographics influence a lot. the energy market is going to shift to developing economies. So if you are looking forward at where the investment is going to be made - it's going to be in the emerging markets of the developing world".

Marios Maratheftis, chief economist, Standard Chartered Bank: " if we just leave it to the free market mechanism to develop to go ahead with the green energy, there is a good chance that at times when the price offer on hydrocarbons falls so low fossil fuels will might look less attractive then renewable energy. So the great drop in oil prices could look as a great incentive to invest in renewables. So this is the situation when the governments and policy makers take a lead into making investment in renewable energy still attractive. And it is fascinating to see Abu Dhabi is taking a leading role in this field."

Dr. Ahmad Belhoul, CEO, Masdar: " If you are decision maker in the energy mix you cannot take into account just oil prices of the current year. You should look into prospective for at least 20-25 years".

Meanwhile our distinguished laureate Shuji Nakamura has arrivef to Abu Dhabi and is giving interviewsto the leading Gulf region media!

"I came to WFES to speak on behalf of the Global Energy Prize. It acknowledges best scientists from all over the world for innovations that promote energy efficiency, help reduce energy consumption and thus benefit the whole humankind! I received the Global Energy Prize in 2015 and this is a great honor. But what's important the most is the spot-line it shines on my technology: the prize is widely known all around the world so the attention it brings to my innovation helps ordinary people understand the importance of white LED lightning! It is important for me as a scientist that I created the product which is being widely used and which helps address the vital problem of global climate change.
Tomorrow I will be speaking on the importance of partnerships between science, business and government in terms of what this cooperation can deliver and how it can build sustainable solutions
" - noted Dr. Nakamura.
