RECOGNISING OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS IN ENERGY

The Global Energy Prize annually honors outstanding achievements in energy research and technology from around the world that are helping address the world’s various and pressing energy challenges.

The Global laureate to get new recognition for outstanding achievement in science and technology

The Global Energy Prize laureate, Shuji Nakamura, got new recognition for his outstanding achievement in science and technology.  Recently he has become the recipient of the Asian Award that honors Asian excellence and pays tribute to Asian success across all walks of life.

Asian Awards is the unique awards ceremony that takes place in the United Kingdom and rewards exemplary achievement across 14 categories. Within its sixth ceremony, Shuji Nakamura was highlighted as an inspirational role model in the field of science.

Recall that Shuji Nakamura was selected the 2015 Global Energy Prize laureate for the invention, commercialization and development of energy-efficient white LED lighting technology.  Without any doubt, the scientist`s  discoveries and inventions have widespread benefits and the energy efficient technology is present in numerous devices including solid state lighting displays, Blu-Ray discs as well as medical technology. It has been argued that Nakamura's invention will eventually mean that Edison's light bulb will become obsolete and as a result save the world billions in energy costs.

Speaking about his invention, Shuji Nakamura underlines: “Right now the biggest issue in the world is global warming. Every temperature rise increases the pressure. The best way to overcome global warming is to save energy. And the easiest way of doing that is by using LEDS for all kinds of lighting.  LED light bulbs last for 50 years and at their current adoption rate, by 2020 LEDs can reduce the world’s need for electricity by the equivalent of nearly 60 nuclear power plants.”
