RECOGNISING OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS IN ENERGY

The Global Energy Prize annually honors outstanding achievements in energy research and technology from around the world that are helping address the world’s various and pressing energy challenges.

Shuji Nakamura: facing global energy challenges, countries should unite

The Global Energy Prize laureates not only successfully develop energy-saving technologies but also support Russian initiatives aimed at promotion of energy-saving lifestyle and introduction of particular those technologies among the population. Thus, the 2015 Global Energy Prize laureate Shuji Nakamura will be the ambassador of the first All-Russian festival on energy-saving #ВместеЯрче, which will be held from the 2nd to 4th of September 2016.

Recall that he is the father of energy efficient white LED lighting and the author of bright blue diode. This technology enabled LED bulbs that are more than ten times efficient than incandescent bulbs.

On the eve of the main Russian event on careful attitude to energy at home and work, Shuji Nakamura has outlined that in addition to these initiatives, our country is in general successfully developing international scientific cooperation in the field of energy, despite of the current sanctions implemented against industry companies, which restrict their financial and economic activity.

Thus, this famous American scientist said: “I believe our great countries should not worsen political relationships via sanctions. Rather they should unite in the aim of finding global energy solutions, for example cooperate in the fight against global warming. That is carry out joint strategy on transition from hydrocarbon to clean fuels.”

One more important area for cooperation he envisions mutual development of programs on commercialization of hydrogen energy and on studying the nature of nuclear fusion. “This is the best alternative to geopolitical games”, - Shuji Nakamura declares.
