The laureate of Global Energy Prize 2017 - doctor Michael Graetzel spoke at the 21st International Conference on Solid State Ionics in Padua, Italy. The scientist told his colleagues about technologies, which can become essential for solar energy generation, and why perovskite solar cells are the biggest breakthrough in photovoltaics, while the material itself is the most researched in the world. It should be noted that the speech of Michael Graetzel at this conference was final in June 2017 in the framework of the laureate’s tour. In total, he spoke in three countries: South Korea (Seoul), China (Hangzhou and Beijing) and Italy (Padua).

Today he visited Zhejiang University (ZJU) in Hangzhou, which is one of the leading and oldest universities in China. During the lectures on perovskites, he presented the latest achievements of his laboratory in the field of solar energy production, told more about perovskite technology and its main differences from silicon batteries.

Within the framework of the laureate’s tour of the Global Energy Prize in 2017, Michael Graetzel spoke at the 6th Sungkyun International Solar Forum 2017 (South Korea, Seoul). The scientist spoke about the progress achieved in the work on his invention - solar cells, which simulates the process of photosynthesis and are able to accumulate energy regardless of the angle of the sun's fall, with an efficiency from 15 to 28.9%. He also presented the development of a new class of devices that appeared due to these elements.
Within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum today, on June 2, the Solemn ceremony of presenting the Global Energy Prize took place.
Despite slightly dropping in popularity in the next 50 and 90 years, gas will dominate among traditional energy sources, comprising approximately 24% and 21% of total energy balance, respectively. Solar energy will prevail over other clean sources, comprising over a quarter of the total energy balance by the beginning of next century, experts believe.

The main trend was the increasing role of renewable energy sources. According to experts, in 15 years the gradual reduction of the use of coal and oil will begin, and in 50 years renewable energy sources will take a prominent place among the resources.

It was held as part of the Laureate's Week of the Award, which is held annually in the northern capital and concludes with the traditional awarding ceremony at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
