The Global Energy Prize annually honors outstanding achievements in energy research and technology from around the world that are helping address the world’s various and pressing energy challenges.

Global Energy Prize will take part at KAZENERGY-2017

Laureate of the Global Energy Prize 2017 Michael Graetzel, as well as members of the International Award Committee - Rae Kwon Chung and Steven Griffiths will speak at XI KAZENERGY Eurasian Forum. Within the framework of one of the key sessions of the forum, Clean energy – contribution to the future, they will assess the prospects for the development of the industry and its impact on the world economy. The session will be held on September 8 and It will be coincided with the Russian Day at EXPO 2017.

Discussion Clean energy – contribution to the future will bring together principal energy leaders in order to find answers to topical issues of the coming era of clean energy sources. Environmental concerns from greenhouse gas emissions that result from energy generation are global. The Paris Agreement of 2015 demonstrated the world’s growing commitment to climate change mitigation with more than 170 countries signing a new climate accord. In spite of clean energy sources provide much less energy than existing conventional energy source experts suppose that the future belongs to clean energy. The problem at hand is when will this future arrive and what we can do to accelerate it.

The session will start from the welcoming speech of the Global Energy Prize laureate 2017, Michael Graetzel, Professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne and developer of the world's first solar cells operating on principles similar to photosynthesis. The scientist will present his expert opinion on how RES will develop in the coming decades, whether they will be able to compete realistically with hydrocarbons, and on the role of the state in supporting environmentally friendly technologies. The Global Energy Prize International Award Committee member; Interim Executive Vice President for Research, Khalifa University of Science and Technology; Vice President for Research and Associate Provost, Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, Stephen Griffiths will talk about the specifics of the transition of hydrocarbon companies to a new level of clean energy, as well as the question - why it happens across-the-board. The Global Energy Prize International Award Committee member; Professor Emeritus, Incheon National University. Dr. Chung holds the position of Advisor to the Chair of High-Level Expert and Leaders Panel (HELP) on Water and Disasters, Rae Kwon Chung will announce the main theses of the Green Growth concept, which is based on the principles of economic growth and job creation while coping with the risk of climate change. Next will speak Remigijus Lapinskas, President, World Bioenergy Association (WBA) and Angelina Davydova, Director, Russian-German Office for Environmental Information.

Igor Lobovsky the President of the Global Energy Prize Association on development of international research and projects in the field of energy will be the moderator of the discussion.

It should be noted that XI KAZENERGY Eurasian Forum is to make substantial contribution into the common dialogue under the EXPO-2017 Project, the Energy Ministers Meeting "Ensuring Energy Sustainable Development" and the 8th International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development.
