Who is the organiser of the Energy of Adventure?

The Energy of Adventure is organised by the Global Energy Prize, one of the world’s most respected awards in energy science, awarding 33 million roubles (approx. US$1.17m) each year for outstanding energy achievements and innovations.

The Prize was established in 2001, and thus far has been granted to 24 scientists from around the globe, including past Laureates from the US, Great Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Iceland, Russia, Ukraine and Japan. The President of the Russian Federation participates in each year’s award ceremony.

What is the connection between the Global Energy Prize and the Energy of Adventure?

Energy of Adventure is one of the programs of the Global Energy Prize. TheGlobal Energy Prize’s Energy of Adventure is an initiative to draw public attention to critical energy issues in Russia and abroad, to encourage the search for new solutions to energy problems of the present and future and to promote a new image of Russia, reflecting its role in the development of science, economics and the environment protection.

What is the objective of the Energy of Adventure?

The Energy of Adventure project aims to show people from different countries that the issues of energy-efficiency, energy-saving and energy security are not just idle talk amongst politicians, but issues that touch every family in every house, village, town and country around the world.

What are the main requirements for project’s participants?

• Age between 18 and 26 at the time of application

• Excellent spoken and written English

• Good health (frequent flights and jet lag require physical endurance and a strong mind!)

• Self-confidence and ability to present confidently in front of a camera

• Being a confident user of social networks such as Twitter and Facebook

• Demonstrable interest in the energy field

• International passport valid at least until September 1, 2012

• Adventurous spirit and thirst for new discoveries, and an ability to mix with people from all over the world.

Why must the project participants have a high level of English?

The Energy of Adventure project involves daily interaction in English with journalists, scientists, opinion leaders and local residents in different countries (often English is the second language of choice in many countries). Project participants will also have to daily "document" their impressions of the trip via social networks Twitter and Facebook in English. Remember, your adventures will be followed not only by the Russian audience, but the whole world!

Why can only candidates aged between 18 and 26 apply to participate in the project?

The Energy of Adventure looks at energy issues from a young and fresh perspective. That's why the organisers of the project want to involve those who are young, inquisitive and full of energy for new discoveries and adventures!

My passport expires soon, but I will be able to get a new one before the trip commences. Can I still apply?

Given the global scope of the project, preparation for it will take a long time, and even minor delays associated with the replacement of the participant’s passport, could affect the project as a whole. To avoid such situations, we shall consider only applications from candidates whose passport is valid until at least September 1, 2012.

Will the project's organisers help me to obtain a grace period at my university, in the event of me winning the competition?

Organisers of the Energy of Adventure will provide the winners with a letter confirming their participation in the project, however all negotiations with the universities’ authorities are expected to be taken upon by the winners themselves.
