"I would like to congratulate the laureates for this year’s Global Energy International Prize. Professor Spalding’s important work has been turned into major industrial applications across the energy industry. I was delighted to hear that his work has benefited not only the oil and gas industry, but also the renewables and low carbon industries: the UK’s National Grid has used his work to model more accurately energy output from wind turbines. Work on improved energy efficiency is vital to the sustainable recovery of the global economy and to our future. I look forward to continued co-operation between the UK and Russian governments on this agenda".
